Execution & Installation:

Check for the

1.     Desktop shortcut “Check for WoolPack updates” or

2.     Program menu item “Check for WoolPack updates” under the Program group  “All Programs” -> “Talman Updates”

The utility should automatically be installed as part of the release 2006.5.6d.

If not available, the utility is available as a separate download at the following link:

http://www.talmansolutions.com.au/LinkClick.aspx?link=Downloads%2fWoolpackAutoUpdate.exe&tabid=71&mid=586

Run the above installer and it will create the required shortcuts.

What it does:

1.     On execution, it checks the Talman website for all the available patches /releases

2.     Downloads them to a local folder on the Clients server (n:\VFox\TalmanUpdates)

3.     Initiates a AutoUpdate program (located under n:\VFox directory) to keep track of the releases on the “Test” as well as the “Live” server

Some important issues / features to note:

  1. As of now, it will handle all the releases above 2006-5-06E (including), this would change frequently and a note about the releases handled would be available on one of the “Check for WoolPack Updates” screens.
  2. All the previous releases have to be downloaded and handled manually (if not installed)
  3. You can toggle the upgrade status for Test as well as Live install status, by RightClick on the appropriate column on the AutoUpdate program
  4. You can re-install a required upgrade (have to re-install all the patches from that patch onwards)
  5. Creates the required upgrade record automatically, as and when the upgrade is available
  6. It will download the installer files only once, which can be reused as required for both Test and Live installs

What it does not do:

  1. Cannot run all the pending updates automatically
  2. Does not check whether the previous upgrade has been installed or not
  3. Does not Backup you data before executing the upgrade installer, backup still has to be done by the System administrator / concerned person
  4. Does not check whether the upgrade installation was successful (If in doubt, just re-install the upgrade).

Future enhancement:

  1. Link the program to Woolpack application to display the current status of the patches applied
